Twin Falls teen named Boys & Girls Club’s regional ‘Youth of the Year’

Twin Falls teenager Cassidy Littleton has been named the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s “Pacific Youth of the Year.”  She was recognized June 8 in Costa Mesa, Calif. She’ll receive a $10,000 college scholarship, renewal for up to four years, the national organization announced.  Littleton was among nine finalists from across the region and represented Idaho. She’s a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Magic Valley in Twin Falls.

Littleton was selected for the regional award “because of her tenacity in the face of adversity and her commitment to leadership and mentorship among younger Club members,” the national organization said in a statement.  This fall, she’ll travel to Washington, D.C. to vie for the title of “National Youth of the Year,” which comes with the chance to win a $100,000 scholarship and serve as a spokesperson for the national organization.

“No matter how deeply I become involved in this organization, I can’t get enough,” Littleton said in the statement. “The best parts of me are brought out by the Boys & Girls Club. I have grown into a leader out of a life that wanted to see me downcast and broken.”

She joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Magic Valley when she was 8 years old.  Despite tragedies in her life, she became more involved in the club, as president of the organization’s service Keystone Club.  She has spoken at events across Idaho and participated in leadership conferences.  Littleton maintained a 4.0 grade point average in high school. She plans to attend Northwest Nazarene University in the fall to study communications, with a focus on public speaking.
