What We Do

Our Mission

To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.

Our Five Core Program Areas

Programs that include character and leadership development empower youth to support and influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process and respect their own and others’ cultural identities. Leadership opportunities offer members a chance to explore their personal gifts and put them into use in a safe and encouraging environment.

Programs that focus on health and life skills develop members’ capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, teach them to set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.  These habits can last a lifetime and influence the health and happiness of their life indefinitely.

Education and career development opportunities enable members to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations and embrace technology.  These skills can greatly increase success in later educational and career endeavors.

There isn’t enough space to list all the positive aspects of studying and participating in the Arts! Members exposed to these opportunities can develop their creativity, discover their passions, build toward a future career, reduce stress and often find a place to belong.  Along the way, members learn to appreciate all forms of creativity including art, crafts, performing arts and creative writing.

Participating in sports, fitness and recreational activities is a great way to develop healthy and lifelong habits.  A strong body and mind, a positive use of leisure time, acquiring skills for stress management, developing an appreciation for the environment, and learning important social skills are all benefits of these programs.

Our Strategy

A Child’s sense of competence is fostered when the staff emphasizes their success and encourages them to build on it. You can be sure that every young person is given the chance to succeed at something and those successes are celebrated with the kids. Members are encouraged to participate in the planning and implementation of different programs offered by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Magic Valley.

Everyone wants to feel like they are needed. We want to make sure that each member feels like they are contributing to what is accomplished here at the Club. Even little jobs can make all the difference to a child. The idea that we couldn’t do our jobs without the help of Club members is very empowering to a child! From the member who has been here for years, to the child who just signed up today, all are an important part of the Clubs’ success. We work very hard to help kids feel they are useful at the Club.

Our Club environment instills a warm, comfortable, safe feeling and encourages members to participate in activities and establish bonds with staff and other members. Each new member receives their own membership card which helps them to take ownership of the Club. National spokesman Denzel Washington still has his original Boys Club membership card. It helped him to feel as though he belonged to something that had a positive feeling to it rather than the negative influences he could have been in contact with.

Since the Boys & Girls Clubs of Magic Valley are by nature a public affair, activities are designed to appeal to a wide range of people in our community. We consider the neighborhoods that our Clubs serve and the key needs of those young people and their families.
